Regents' Closed Session Action Announced

During a closed session meeting on Oct. 24, the Southeast Board of Regents took the following action:

• Pursuant to RSMo § 610.021.2 for matters regarding real estate, the Board of Regents by a vote of 4 to 0 authorized University administration to enter into a Letter of Intent to develop and lease property adjacent to a Southeast Missouri State University campus.  Regents Britt, Gargas, Klocke and Knudtson all voted to approve.  Regent Limbaugh abstained for business reasons.  Pursuant to Missouri’s Sunshine Law, additional information will be made available upon execution of the lease as public disclosure before then may adversely affect the legal consideration thereof.

• Pursuant to RSMo § 610.021.2 for matters regarding real estate, the Board of Regents by a vote of 5 to 0 approved a motion requesting that the Southeast Missouri University Foundation purchase real estate located at 1216 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Regents Britt, Gargas, Klocke, Knudtson and Limbaugh all voted to approve.

2020 Annual Benefits Open Enrollment Underway

Annual Benefits Open Enrollment for 2020 began on Monday, Oct. 28, and will continue through Friday, Nov. 8. Both full-time and part-time benefit eligible employees should process their 2020 benefit elections using Banner Self Service.  Dually employed spouses with dependent coverage should have received an enrollment packet via email. Walk-in open labs are currently being offered for employees who are comfortable with Banner Self Service but might require one-on-one assistance with completing their online enrollment. The lab schedule can be found on the Human Resources website at http://www.semo.edu/hr/open-enrollment.html.  Questions should be directed to Human Resources at (573) 651-2206. 

Faculty/Staff Portrait Day Nov. 7

The last Portrait Day of the fall semester is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Magill Hall second floor lounge for faculty and staff members wishing to have a portrait-style photograph taken for departmental Web pages or other publications. No appointments are necessary.

Take-Away Friday Continues Nov. 1 with 'Seeing the Forest: University Organization and Governance'

The Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning (CSTL) continues the "Take-Away Friday" series of faculty development presentations on Nov. 1 at noon in the Jean Ann Whitaker Model Classroom in the EDvolution Center, Scully Room 209. "Seeing the Forest: University Organization and Governance" will be presented by Dr. Erin Fluegge, associate professor of management, and Carl Hess, assistant professor and information literacy librarian. Southeast Students’ ‘Don’t Take Pictures’ Featured in Catapult’s Artist of the Month Exhibit

“Don’t Take Pictures” is this year’s third Student Artist of the Month exhibit at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House. Catapult Press Hosting Live T-Shirt Printing for Public Domain Project Nov. 1

Catapult Press at Catapult Creative House, located in downtown Cape Girardeau, will host Ashley Sexton, coordinator of Public Domain, and Southeast art students for a live T-shirt printing as part of Cape Girardeau's First Friday with the Arts Nov. 1 from 5-7 p.m. Visitors can purchase a blank T-shirt at the event and have it printed for $20, or bring their own T-shirt and have it printed for $8. Proceeds from the event will go towards funding the Public Domain Project, a no rights reserved platform that offers affordable artworks for all. Customers can choose from a variety of hand-drawn designs created by Public Domain artists, watch the printing process as their shirt is being printed, and tour Catapult Press to learn about its historic presses and the letterpress process.

 Buy one get one free tickets are available for "du-al-i-ty: An Instance of Opposition or Contrast Between Two Concepts." This concert will feature Dr. Joseph Jefferson, assistant professor of trombone/euphonium and director of jazz studies at Southeast, performing an exciting program in classical, jazz and contemporary music styles at the River Campus at 3 p.m. Nov. 3. Soccer Wins 2019 OVC Title, Will Host OVC Tournament Semifinals, Final

Southeast Missouri won the 2019 Ohio Valley Conferene (OVC) regular-season title and will host the OVC Tournament Semifinals and Championship after beating Tennessee Tech University, 3-2, on Sunday, Oct. 27. SEMO won its sixth OVC regular-season crown and first outright title since 2011. The top-seeded Redhawks play host to the OVC Tournament Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8 and OVC Championship on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Women's Basketball Opens Exhibition Play This Week

The Redhawk women's basketball team hosts St. Louis College of Pharmacy in an exhibition matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Show Me Center. Admission is free and at-will cash and non-perishable food donations for the Redhawk Food Pantry will be accepted. All games are broadcast live on the radio at ESPN 1220 AM. For the second week in a row, Southeast Missouri won two Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) football honors. Outside linebacker Omardrick Douglas was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week and quarterback Joe Pyle was voted OVC Newcomer of the Week on Sunday, Oct. 27.
