“Across the Tracks,” an exhibition of photographs by Arthur Fields, will be on display Oct. 9 to Nov. 6 at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House.
“Across the Tracks” is a serene and sometimes surreal exploration of everyday architecture, landscapes and patriotism in and around southern Indiana. Fields has been a resident of Vincennes, Indiana, for five years and has viewed the area with both curiosity and sometimes disbelief.
Fields relies on the New Topographics tradition and photographs the Tri-State area of Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky with an unromanticized view, focusing on the urban vista and the stark relationships between man and landscape.
“Across the Tracks” opens Friday, Nov. 6 from 5-9 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Attendees are welcome to tour the entire Catapult facilities including the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Art and Design students’ studios upstairs. Additionally, an exhibition of Tristan Swims’ paintings and mixed media will be featured in the second-floor student gallery. Visitors are also invited to browse the merchandise in the Shoppe, which features student work and local business products.
Face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
