Sept. 24, 2008 – Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Agriculture is hosting the fifth “Agriculture Educational Field Day” from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Charles L. Hutson Horticulture Greenhouse and Agriculture Research Center facilities.

The time spent at the greenhouse and research center will include educational information on Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), row crops, turf and horticulture, companion animals, new technology in animal science, an irrigation tile drainage system, environmental conservation and natural resources, garden centers and greenhouse management, business and the economics of agriculture, and Department of Agriculture and University information. The discussion at these sites will be led by students and faculty of the Department of Agriculture.

The educational portion of the event will last until noon, and a free lunch will be provided afterwards.

Students and instructors who plan on attending should RSVP by Friday, Oct. 3.  The event is limited to the first 200 students and instructors. High school juniors and seniors and community college students are especially encouraged to attend. Contact the Department of Agriculture at (573) 651-2106 or to RSVP.

Because some of the events will take place outdoors, students and instructors are encouraged to wear comfortable and weather-appropriate attire.
