Southeast’s chapter of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority will host a “Merry Beary Holiday Event” at the Southeast Missouri State University Autism Center for Diagnosis and Treatment on Dec. 3.
Children with autism and their families are invited to the event scheduled for 5-7 p.m. at the Center at 611 N. Fountain Street in Cape Girardeau.
Jennie Ellsworth of Glen Carbon, Illinois, philanthropy vice president of Alpha Delta Xi, said the sorority is planning the event to align with Alpha Delta Xi’s philanthropic mission in support of Autism Speaks.
“Our members wanted to give back to the community, so we thought hosting an event with the Autism Center would be a great opportunity for our members to make connections with people on the spectrum,” Ellsworth said.
The event will include a book reading and snacks, and “a stuffed friend will be gifted to our new friends with autism,” Ellsworth said. “The goal of this event is to help further a world of inclusion.”
