Annual Juried Student Exhibition Opens April 5

“The Annual Juried Student Exhibition” will be displayed in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus April 5-21.

An opening reception for the exhibiting students is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. April 5 and is open to the public. The awards ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center.

Merit awards and honorable mention awards will be presented in each of the following categories: Color Composition/Design Foundations, 3D, Drawing, Painting, Fibers, Graphic Design/Illustration, Digital Art, Printmaking, Ceramics and Sculpture. Best in Show and the Distinguished Merit Award will also be presented.

“This is a significant show for the Southeast art students to showcase their artistic talents with selected, original works that have been created this past year,” said Jim Phillips, museum manager and senior curator. “Additionally, many of their works on view will be available for purchase.”

This year’s juror is Sarah Haig, an associate professor of graphic design at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

In conjunction with the student exhibition, the professional juror exhibits a solo show of their own work in Southeast’s River Campus Art Gallery. Haig’s exhibit will feature a series of her hand-drawn and digital illustrations for children’s book.

Haig earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Arts in graphic design from The State University of New York at Oswego. She then received her Master of Fine Arts in installation with an emphasis on printmaking and papermaking from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her work ranges in medium, with a continued question of how the medium can further the message within each individual piece.
