An enjoyable evening out, complete with dinner and a show, is now available at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus thanks to its  “Art Cuisine”  dinner program.

“Art Cuisine” offers River Campus guests the opportunity to add  dinner to their theatre plans, said Bob Cerchio, assistant director of the Holland College of Arts and Media.

“It creates a package for the entire evening,” he said. “Instead of having to have dinner miles away and hurry to get to campus for a performance, you’re within a two-minute walk.”

“Art Cuisine” meals are crafted by Chartwells chefs and served in St. Vincent’s Commons at The Kenneth and Jeanine Dobbins River Campus Center. Patrons can enjoy their gourmet food in a venue overlooking the scenic Mississippi River.

“The meals are planned to fit with the theme of the performance, and it’s a very beautiful meal,” said Cerchio. “ Audiences can enjoy a night on the town and let Art Cuisine take the stage.”

“Art Cuisine” dinners will be held prior to  the Sept. 28 performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” the Oct. 16 performance of “Chinese Warriors of Peking,” the Feb. 22 performance of “Sister Act,” the March 5 performance of “Shostakovich Fifth Symphony,” and the March 23 performance of “Evita.” Art Cuisine begins at  5:30 p.m., with the performance to follow at  7:30 p.m. Guests are also welcome to enjoy an “Art Cuisine” experience without attending a River Campus show.

Guests who want to enjoy “Art Cuisine” prior to the Sept. 28 performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar” must make reservations by today, Sept. 21. The stars of that evening’s menu are moussaka, chicken Jerusalem, Jerusalem artichoke salad, garlic mashed potatoes, wilted spinach and flatbread. Halvah parfait will be served for dessert.

To enjoy dinner along with the show, call Chartwells at (573) 651-2511 and leave a voicemail message requesting meal tickets. Include any vegetarian or special dietary needs information. A $26 per person payment can be made upon arrival.

Tickets for the River Campus performances can be reserved by calling the River Campus Box Office at (573) 651-2265. If you have purchased tickets for a specific performance date and you would like to instead attend a performance that follows an Art Cuisine dinner, please call the Box Office to exchange your tickets for another date’s performance. The Box Office will assist you free of charge.
