Celebrate the strength of women with the Artemisia Vocal Trio in “Sounds Like Us” as part of the Chateau Girardeau “Sundays at Three” series Sept. 22 at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
What happens when a woman finds her voice? What happens when her strength is cultivated? What happens when that story is sung? In “Sounds Like Us,” Chicago-based vocal trio Artemisia harnesses the color and contrast of the rich vocal traditions of the world to celebrate women.
“I am very excited to welcome this amazing vocal group to Southeast,” said Dr. Gabrielle Baffoni, series director and assistant professor of single reeds at Southeast. “The Artemisia Trio brings a unique program and experience to the ‘Sundays and Three’ series that audiences are sure to love.”
Vocal trio members Diana Lawrence, Alexandra Olsavsky and Kaitlin Foley derived their namesake, Artemisia, from three historical women that held unusually great strength.
Their debut album, “Sounds Like Us,” is a 10-track album which takes listeners around the world in a rich sampling of color, contrast, and the raw power of the female voice.
The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall.
