CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Tim Buchheit of Perryville, Mo., established the scholarship fund, which now totals nearly $15,000, to assist a student attending the Perryville Higher Education Center. Eligible students must have a 2.0 grade point average. The Perryville Higher Education Center Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.
The Buchheit Store began as a result of one man’s desire to help other people, according to Tim Buccheit. Starting out in 1934 with only a truck, Rudy Buchheit began hauling livestock, hay and corn to St. Louis. These trips soon turned his hauling business into a store on wheels, and, while he was in St. Louis, he bought merchandise requested from his neighbors and friends, and delivered it to them when he returned home. Realizing there was a need for a general store in Biehle, Mo., he opened his first store in 1934 in a former saloon building.
The rest is history, according to Tim Buccheit. The Buchheit legacy has grown to include five stores located in Missouri and Illinois, the Buchheit Rental and Repair center, the Trucking and Agri Division, and sister company Blair, Inc. The combined companies now employ more than 800 people. Rudy Buchheit’s legacy included giving the entrepreneurial spirit to 11 children, most having gone into business for themselves, pursued a teaching career, or both. His son, Kenny, is chairman of the board of the Buchheit company while Kenny’s sons, Doug, Jon, Tim and Jeff, and daughter Kristy are all involved in the business. The family pride in the business continues as now, even some of Rudy Buccheit’s great-grandchildren are employed in the corporation. From the small start of one man striving to give personalized service to neighbors and friends, the legacy continues as the Buchheits strive to provide quality service and merchandise to all of their customers.
