CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
July 16, 2008 – Shad Burner, coordinator of marketing for the Alumni Association and the Southeast Missouri University Foundation, has been named director of Alumni Services at Southeast Missouri State University.
Burner begins his new duties today.
Burner graduated from Southeast in 2006 with a degree in mass communication with an emphasis in public relations. During the spring semester of his senior year, he worked as a student employee in the Office of Alumni Services, where he later continued employment as a graduate assistant. In November 2006, he became coordinator of marketing for University Advancement, serving both the Alumni Association and the Foundation. He has been responsible for overseeing the iAMsoutheast alumni Web site, serving as copywriter and producer of the Alumni Merit Award videos, copy and art editor of The Magazine of Southeast Missouri State University, and editor of iAMsoutheast News – a bi-monthly e-newsletter for alumni.
A 2001 graduate of Bernie High School, Burner plans to graduate from Southeast in August with a master’s degree in higher education administration. Burner is a graduate of the 2008 class of Leadership Cape, a member of the Council for Alumni Membership and Marketing Professionals and a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. He has served as a staff mentor at Southeast Missouri State University’s First Step freshman orientation.
“I am truly a living testament to the mission of Southeast,” Burner said. “The University has allowed me to accomplish things and go places that I never dreamed of as a kid living on a small farm in southeast Missouri. Because of this, I am committed to doing all that I can to help further that mission and ensure that Southeast continues to provide similar opportunities for future students.
“I’m just so excited about the possibility to serve our alumni,” he added. “There are incredible opportunities to expand the services and enhance the value of the Alumni Association, while also continuing to be the link between alumni and Southeast.”
The director of Alumni Services is responsible for overseeing all alumni activities, including the work of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association; creating, implementing and evaluating programs that attract and bind alumni to Southeast, including the online community, iAMsoutheast; and coordinating Homecoming. The director of Alumni Services also manages a comprehensive Alumni Association Membership program including the affinity programs associated with membership, coordinates alumni chapter events and activities, provides programs and materials for selection of alumni awards and honors including identification of potential candidates, and plans and coordinates event management activities for the University Advancement Division.
