CACREP Accredits Graduate Programs in Community Counseling, School Counseling

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 12, 2005 — The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) has granted full accreditation to two programs in the College of Education at Southeast Missouri State University.

Southeast’s graduate programs in community counseling and school counseling received this recognition after the accreditation board extensively reviewed the program’s self-study documents, the visiting team’s report and the institutional response.

“This was a two-year job, and the faculty have worked enormously hard,” said Dr. Verl Pope, associate professor of counseling at Southeast. “The team was very complimentary of our program. We think it’s great.”

Both programs received the maximum eight-year accreditation period. Southeast is now one of only three in Missouri to have accredited graduate programs in community counseling and school counseling.

“The faculty want to thank the site supervisors and the community and school leaders who have been so supportive of our programs,” Pope said.

Members of the counseling faculty are Dr. Verl Pope, Dr. Cheryl Milde, Dr. A. Zaidy Mohdzain, Dr. Janice Ward, Dr. Julieta Monteiro-Leitner and Dr. Lauren Brewer.
