Career Services Launches Part-Time Job BLITZ LIST

BlitzListCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 29, 2014 –The BLITZ is on in Career Services at Southeast Missouri State University.

The new BLITZ LIST is now open to area employers looking for Southeast Missouri State University students to fill part-time jobs.

In addition to Southeast Career Services’ e-recruiting tool REDConnect, employers can now post part-time jobs on the new BLITZ LIST beginning Aug. 1. The BLITZ LIST provides an online opportunity for on- and off-campus employers to advertise part-time positions for students on the Career Services website.

Career Services has enhanced the process for employers to list and students to find part-time jobs with a more user-friendly option, which includes the elimination of the Part-Time Job Fair typically hosted the first week of classes.

Career Services listened to comments from both employer and student perspectives citing difficulties waiting for a one-day event to find workers and jobs,” said Joyce Hunter, coordinator of Outreach and Events with Career Services.

Many employers recruit part-time workers to help with the back-to-school crush as well as staffing for the upcoming holiday shopping season, she said. Employers provided feedback that waiting until Southeast’s traditional part-time job fair, held the last week of August when the students returned to campus, was often too late. Additionally, employers cited it was challenging to step away from their offices to recruit workers.

Students cited difficulty waiting until the first week of classes to look for part-time jobs and have commented on the limited availability of openings offered, as often positions were filled before they had the chance to apply.

“Now having the opportunity to connect earlier than ever before to secure part-time jobs before the semester begins provides students peace of mind and the ability to better balance their schedules,” Hunter said.

Michele Tapp, director of the Center for Academic Advising and Career Services, said, “Offering the BLITZ LIST as an online option expands the opportunity for both job seekers and employers to connect earlier and in a timelier manner. It seems like the perfect solution for all involved.”

To post jobs on the BLITZ LIST, employers and students are asked to log onto Aug. 1-Sept. 30. The employer link provides a brief form to complete and then automatically posts the job online within one to two business days. The student link provides an up-to-date list of part-time jobs, both on and off campus.

Employers still have the option to post full-time jobs, part-time jobs and internships on the REDConnect e-recruiting system by logging onto

Career Services will direct all prospective applicants to both the BLITZ LIST and REDConnect, so employers and students have twice the opportunity to connect.
