The Catapult Creative House Student Studios will hold a reception Friday, Jan. 5, highlighting its Artist of the Month exhibition titled “God, in my opinion,” featuring the work of Southeast Missouri State University artist Mitchell Dill.
The reception is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. The exhibition will continue through Jan. 7.
Dill’s exhibition makes tangible the notion of a unique and personal concept of God. Using two-dimensional and three-dimensional work in accord with obscure semiotic references, the artist challenges the viewer to explore who God is to them and what that might look like in a physical form.
Each month and as a part of a program to promote community-based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen to exhibit their work at Catapult Creative House’s Student Studio Gallery. These exhibitions showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the Southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature and the role of art in contemporary society. In addition to the exhibition, attendees are welcome to tour the studio spaces, view ongoing projects and engage with the artists.
In connection with the exhibition reception, the Catapult Creative House Student Studio artists and Catapult jewelry artists are proud to present their Studio Pop-Up Shop, also from 5-9 p.m. Jan. 5. This month, the Pop-Up retail space will present the opportunity for visitors to purchase one-of-a-kind jewelry, cards and wearables, as well as ceramics and prints, all created by the participating artists. The Pop-Up Shop is located behind the Letter Press Studio on the first floor of Catapult Creative House at 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau.
