Catapult Creative House at Southeast Missouri State University is pleased to host After Hours: Conversations on Art and Culture, a new series of lectures and presentations.

These events will occur on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The theme for this semester is “Flesh and Bone: The Body in the Arts.” The first presentation is on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.  Bart Williams, assistant professor of theatre–acting and stage combat, will discuss: “Acting the Fight:  Body Language and the Art of Pain in Successful Stage Combat Stories.”

According to Williams, most people think stage fights are all about technique – but it is actually about illusion and believable consequences.  Effective fake fighting requires real research and body awareness, which audiences don’t see, but good performers know.

This event is free and open to the public. For further information contact Dr. Joni Hand at jhand@semo.edu

Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
