Chicago Dance Co. Hosting Master Classes March 1

River North Chicago Dance Company will hosting two dance master classes — one in jazz and one in modern dance — March 1 at Southeast.


Feb. 11, 2010 – River North Chicago Dance Company will hosting two dance master classes on Monday, March 1, on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

Both classes will be held in Memorial Hall and are open to the public.

River North company member Lizzie MacKenzie of Toronto, Ontario, will be instructing a jazz dance class comprised of all levels from 9-11 a.m.

MacKenzie has worked with such companies as the Boston Youth Ballet, the Michigan Classic Ballet, Black Box Dance Company, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and five years with Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago.  She is also the founder and artistic director of Extensions Dance Company; a Chicago-based, not-for-profit youth dance company.

River North company member Ricky Ruiz of Miami, Fla., will be instructing a modern dance class comprised of all levels from 2-4 p.m.

Ruiz attended the University of South Florida on academic and talent scholarships and graduated cum laude with a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance performance.  Ruiz has worked with such choreographers as Dan Karaty and Melissa Thodos and has performed repertory by Jose Limon and Bob Fosse.  He is also a teacher and choreographer.

River North Chicago Dance Company is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. March 2 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, River North Chicago Dance Company is dedicated to the creative advancement, presentation and preservation of jazz-based contemporary dance. Recognized for its highly skilled and emotive dancers, stimulating music and bold and commanding choreography, the dancers demonstrate depth and sophistication, yet what remains constant is their commitment to creating an accessible, enriching experience for audiences.
