Cirque Eloize’s ‘Nebbia’ to be Performed at River Campus

Feb. 26, 2009 – “Nebbia,” created by Cirque Eloize in co-production with Teatro Sunil, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 10-11 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

Directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, “Nebbia” is the third part of the Sky Trilogy.  Launched in December 2007, “Nebbia,” meaning “fog” in Italian, explores the world of dreams and the imaginary.  In the fog, you get lost, you find each other, but above all, you are confronted with the unexpected.

“Nebbia” will plunge you into a poetic and sensitive universe, mixing acrobatics and theatre in a subtle way which has no boundaries.

Pasca explains, “You don’t get lost in the fog; you merely have strange encounters that are not quite mirages or hallucinations. In the fog, reality is transformed into a dream or perhaps it is not truly transformed into a dream, but simply presents itself as such. Everything is possible.  Even without imagination, everything is possible.  On my grandmother’s balcony, I saw camels and deserts, sirens, my uncle coming back from war, and then a circus.  And then I saw myself all grown up, speeding by in a red car.”

In the third opus, the fog takes center stage and everything becomes possible.  Reality is transformed into a dream.  In “Nebbia,” the sky descends like a mantle to cover our shoulders and protect our dreams.  “Nebbia” combines theatrics, rhythm, acrobatic skills, circus acts and poetry, bringing together acrobatic theatre, modern circus, and performance.  Emotion and sensuality are key components along with music and singing in this collaborative process.  The musical score for “Nebbia” becomes unique, carrying on a dialogue with the 12 onstage performers.
