CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 21, 2005 — Robert Conger will present a faculty trombone recital in conjunction with the Southeast Faculty Brass Quintet March 31 at Southeast Missouri State University.
The concert will be held at 8 p.m. in Brandt Hall room 205. Along with Conger, the Southeast Faculty Brass Quintet will also be featured in the recital. This concert is free and open to the public.
Robert Conger is a new member of the Southeast Department of Music faculty and is responsible for all low brass applied music lessons as well as directing the jazz program, the Redhawk Concert Band, and teaching courses in conducting and music education.
The varied program will consist of music by Gabriel Faure, Ferdinand David, Victor Ewald and Bill Brusick.
Featured on the program will be a new work by Mark Phillips entitled T Rex, a work for trombone and pre-recorded CD. The composer contacted five professional trombonists to record source material, which he then manipulated in to the accompanying CD, including styles such as salsa, funk and new age.
This will be the premiere performance on the Southeast campus by the Southeast Faculty Brass Quintet. Along with Conger, this chamber group includes faculty members Marc Fulgham and Barry Bernhardt, and Southeast alumnus Charles Kelley.
