CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
March 9, 2009 – The Department of Communication Studies at Southeast Missouri State University will celebrate its 70th anniversary during the 2009 Low Lecture, Friday, March 27.
All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a celebration reception in the Rose Theatre Lobby from 4:30-6 p.m. followed by a symposium of alumni and past faculty in the Rose Theatre from 6-7 p.m.
During the 1938-1939 academic year, Dr. Forrest H. Rose became the chair of the newly-formed Department of Speech. Rose and Oliver Skalbeck comprised the speech and debate faculty at that time.
In 2008-2009, while looking back at a proud 70 years of continued excellence in speech communication, the department – with Dr. Stuart Towns as chair – now looks forward to a new level of excellence as the newly renamed Department of Communication Studies.
