CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 27, 2010 — Beginning Monday, Aug. 2, Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Public Safety will move from its current location in Dearmont Hall at 360 Dearmont Circle to the former Aleen Vogel Wehking Alumni Center, located at 1401 N. Sprigg Street.
The Department’s new site is in a single story building on Sprigg Street, near the entrance to the Show Me Center. The building formerly housed the University Advancement division, which relocated in 2007 to the new Aleen Vogel Wehking Alumni Center, formerly the First Baptist Church, at 926 Broadway.
The Department of Public Safety, which is made up of the University Police Department, the Parking and Transit Service and Emergency Preparedness, will be housed in an updated and remodeled facility.
“Students, staff, faculty and guests will now be able to find the Department of Public Safety in a highly visible landmark in a well-established setting,” said Doug Richards, director of the Department of Public Safety. “The new facility is easily accessible with ample parking available in adjacent lots.”
The new location will provide a significant facility improvement to the police communication unit, he said, however, technical components of the unit make it necessary to delay its move until the fall 2010 semester. Until then, the communication unit will continue to operate from its current location in Dearmont Hall.
Emergency and routine police service will continue without interruption during the move. All telephone extension numbers remain the same, and the Department can continue to be contacted at (573) 651-2215. The Department’s new mail stop code is 7275.
The move is expected to be completed by Aug. 3.
