The scholarship was established by Dean Cowan, a 1992 graduate of Southeast with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a major of finance, and his wife, Linda Schnetzer, in honor of Dr. Bruce Domazlicky, professor of economics who has worked at Southeast since 1986.
The recipient of this scholarship will be a student enrolled at Southeast with a declared major in economics or finance under the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program or a declared major in economics under the Bachelor of Science program, and completion of at least 60 credit hours with an overall GPA of 2.8 or greater. Students must also have completed the introductory sequence of courses in economics and introductory statistics, with no grade less than a B. In addition, any course work in economics beyond the introductory sequence will be considered, particularly introductory corporate finance. Contributions to the Southeast community outside the classroom are also considered in the selection process.
Domazlicky has an outstanding record in his field, having been published many times in national, peer-reviewed journals. He is closely involved with ongoing research in the region as director of the Center for Economic and Business Research. He serves the public by regularly completing special economic impact and benefit cost studies and publishing the quarterly “Southeast Missouri Business Indicators.” He is also the faculty advisor of the Southeast chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon international economics honor society.
For many years, Domazlicky has been regarded by Southeast students as one of the quality teachers on the Department of Economics and Finance faculty. He is committed to student success and, as an advisor to new students as part of both the new student orientation program and general studies multi-disciplinary classes, he has also assisted countless students outside the department.
Domazlicky’s favorite pastime is collecting and restoring antique radios in addition to enjoying the great outdoors and Yellowstone National Park.
