CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 20, 2014 – The victim of a drunk driving accident will present his inspirational story in “The Other End of the Stethoscope – A Tribute to Health Care Professionals” April 14 at Southeast Missouri State University.
Marcus Engel will offer insight and strategies for excellent patient care in a presentation sponsored by the Department of Nursing at 2 p.m. in Rose Theatre. Following the presentation, a book signing will be held, and refreshments will be available.
Engel is a best-selling author and speaker. His extraordinary story of recovery after being blinded and catastrophically injured by a drunk driver challenges individuals to achieve success by making intelligent choices. His message of overcoming adversity will encourage those who attend to view obstacles as opportunities, eliminate self-limiting behaviors and live life to the fullest.
Engel will discuss how innovative techniques may be applied to treat patient challenges and how to discover the small things that make a big difference in patient care. He also will focus on managing the “not-so-caring” aspects of the health care system.
Engel is the author of “Everyday Inspiration,” “After This: An Inspirational Journey for All the Wrong Reasons,” “The Other End of the Stethoscope” and “I’m Here: Compassionate Communication in Patient Care.”
The event is sponsored by the Department of Nursing and made possible by a grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health.
