Exhibition Explores Selections from Miller’s Artwork

Justin Miller, coordinator of the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus Art Gallery, will display selections of his personal work in an exhibit opening Feb. 1 as part of First Friday arts activities in downtown Cape Girardeau.

“Justin Henry Miller: Making, Collecting and Influences” will feature pieces Miller has collected as well as artworks created by both his former professors and former students. An artist’s talk is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Feb. 1 with a reception to follow from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibit will remain on display through Feb. 22.

“This show is an opportunity for me to show artwork I have collected over the years by artist I admire and whose work I find inspiring,” Miller said. “I will also be showing a selection of my personal artwork in close proximity to my past professors and former students. My hope is that viewers will see correlations amongst the pieces and appreciate the connectivity amongst artists and educators.”

Miller is an associate professor of art and area head of painting in the Southeast Department of Art. Aside from his teaching, Miller is a practicing artist who regularly exhibits his artwork nationally. He is represented by Zg Gallery in Chicago, Illinois.

The River Campus Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106.
