Visual artists from across the nation will be participating in “Validity, a curated exhibit opening during the May 4 First Friday at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House Student Gallery.

“Validity, “curated and organized by Jessica Lambert, manager of the Catapult Creative House Student Gallery, is a collection of visual works created by female artists expressing their personal stories of how feminism has shaped their lives. Every experience is valid, and every story should be told. In today’s social-political climate, women must stand together to voice their views and experiences of the world. Feminism has transformed through generations, allowing contemporary women/girls/females or those who identify as such to add their own experiences, ideas and dialogue. It is important to recognize women who believe that being a feminist is a unique, positive and vital role to the development of the world.

Mediums represented include photography, printmaking, sculpture, fibers and digital art. Artists featured in the curated show are Emma Brunette of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jam Lovell of Carbondale, Illinois; Janet Ballweg of Bowling Green, Ohio; Joni Hand of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Stephanie Alaniz of Morgantown, West Virginia; Zeinab Saab of Dekalb, Illinois; Jamie Lankford of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; Candace Taylor of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Jess Lauren Lipton of Portland, Oregon; Bethany Rahn of  Bloomington, Indiana; Eliana Rodriguez of Boone, North Carolina; Madeline Lemieux of Columbia, Missouri; and Jasmin Nava of Dekalb, Illinois.

The reception is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the Catapult Creative House Gallery. Attendees are welcome to tour the entire Catapult facilities including the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Art students’ studios upstairs, as well as the Catapult Creative Shoppe which features student work and local business products.

Lambert will present short lectures on “Validity” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Catapult Creative House.
