Fall 2015 Career Week and Internship Fair Oct. 5-8 at Southeast

ADM-CareerServicesCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 1, 2015 — More than 110 area employers are registered to meet Southeast Missouri State University students of all majors and Southeast alumni at the fall 2015 Career and Internship Fair Oct. 8 in the Student Recreation Center-North.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students and alumni interested in exploring internships or career and job opportunities will be able to meet people from organizations directly related to their field of study.

Organizations planning to attend the fair represent a local, regional, national and international spectrum, including the SRA International, Federal Bureau of Investigation, AT&T, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Buchheit, Inc., U.S. Secret Service, Sikeston R-6 Public Schools, U.S. Navy, Target and more. This will give students from each major the chance to meet someone in their respective fields. A complete, updated list can be found on the Career Services website at https://semo.wufoo.com/reports/fall-2015-career-internship-fair-attendees/.

“We are pleased to continue to offer employer registration at no charge, as we view this as one of the best investments we can make on behalf of our students,” said Michele Tapp, director of Academic and Career Advising.

“Career Services has made an intentional effort to provide all students and alumni with a strong and varied employer pool,” she said.

Students and alumni who attend the fair are encouraged to dress professionally, bring an updated copy of their resume and research each company they plan to visit ahead of time.

“There is only one chance to make a great ‘first impressions’ according to our employers,” said Tapp. “Presenting yourself in a professional manner with professional dress, a solid resume and researching the company ahead of time will really help to make the best first impression and stand out among other applicants.”

According to Tapp, professional dress consists of a dress shirt, tie, slacks, dress shoes and socks for men. For women the preferred dress is a dress blouse (nothing low cut, tight or that shows midriff), jackets/twin sweater sets, modest length skirts, dresses, pant suits and dress shoes. If students do not have these particular garments, collared shirts, khaki pants and dress shoes are acceptable.

Students and alumni who are unable to attend the fair have the option of uploading their resume in Southeast’s e-recruiting system REDConnect to the Fall Career Fair Resume Book where employers will be able to view students’ resumes both before and after the event.

Registration for employers is open through Friday, Oct. 2and is free to employers and organizations. Register here: http://semo.edu/careers/employers/career-fair.html
