CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 26, 2016 – The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents today paved the way for fall break and Thanksgiving week to coincide through 2021 when they approved the Five-Year Academic Calendar for 2017-2021.
The move comes after a change in 2015 that saw fall break and Thanksgiving week coincide last November. Prior to last year, fall break had been observed over two days in October. Following last year’s change, surveys were conducted in December with responses indicating that a majority of faculty, staff and students either preferred fall break to be during the week of Thanksgiving or were indifferent between fall break occurring in October or during Thanksgiving week.
In December 2013, the Regents approved the calendar change for 2015 and 2016 to accommodate a scheduling conflict associated with Homecoming in 2015 and to allow for advance scheduling and the opportunity to evaluate the impact of the calendar change in 2016. Today’s action extends that scheduling through 2021.
