‘Fall for Dance 2010’ Concert to Showcase Variety of Dance Styles

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 19, 2010ᾰThe Department of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University will present Fall for Dance 2010 at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2-4 and 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at the River Campus.  The dance showcase will be presented in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.

Fall for Dance 2010 is one of two main stage dance concerts planned by the Department of Theatre and Dance each year. The dance concerts showcase students in an array of dance styles and genres.

“The content of the dance concert varies each year in both subject matter and theme, and is based on the artistic inspiration of each choreographer”, said Michelle Contrino. Contrino has taught choreography this fall and is serving as artistic coordinator for the Fall for Dance 2010 concert.

“Dance is a unique art form, where the human form is the medium and the message is translated without words,” Contrino said. “The compositions can range anywhere between classical and traditional, to contemporary and abstract.

“It is our goal as an educational system to not only educate our students in the many forms of choreographic choices, but also to provide our audience members with entertaining and thought-provoking works of art,” she said.

Rhodes 101 Stops is the sponsor of this year’s Theatre and Dance Series.
