The Southeast Missouri State University jazz bands will present their fall jazz spectacular in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall in the Cultural Arts Center at River Campus Nov. 1.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 17, 2007 — The Southeast Missouri State University jazz bands will present their fall jazz spectacular in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall in the Cultural Arts Center at River Campus at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1.
Both the Studio Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Lab Band will perform and will be directed by Robert Conger, a professor in the Department of Music.
The Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform compositions by noted jazz composers such as Stan Kenton, Charlie Parker and Billy Strayhorn. Included in the Studio Jazz Ensemble program will be “A Little Minor Booze,” “Yardbird Suite,” “Lush Life” and a fabulous salsa chart titled “Los Brujos De Cisano.” Featured soloists will include Jay Peters, trombone, a senior music major from Festus, Mo.; Michael Harrer, saxophone, a senior music major from St. Peters, Mo.; Zach Priester, guitar, a sophomore music major from Jackson, Mo.; Andrew Mitchell, tenor saxophone, a sophomore music major from House Springs, Mo.; and Sean Brown, a senior music major from St. Peters, Mo.
Opening the performance will be the Jazz Lab Band. This group will perform some well-known compositions including “Bag’s Groove,” “Ala Mode,” “Manteca” and “Groove Merchant.” Among the soloists with the Lab Band will be Chris Aarns, a law enforcement major from Creve Couer, Mo.; Mako Ishida, a marketing major from Japan; and Bryan Cassell, a pre-med major from Charleston, Mo.
