Fifth House Ensemble will perform “Americana” in the final concert in the 2018-2019 “Sundays at Three” series on April 28 at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall.
Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble is an innovative professional chamber ensemble that combines outstanding performance with civic engagement and outreach. Fifth House Ensemble harnesses the collaborative spirit of chamber music to reach beyond the traditionally-perceived limits of classical music.
As part of its program, entitled “Americana,” the Fifth House Ensemble showcases contemporary American piano trios by Stacy Garrop, Dan Visconti, Donald Crockett and Paul Schoenfield, which are rich with inspirations of film noir, jazz, pop and folk songs. The program also features Costa Rican artist, Angela Bermúdez, who has created a stunning visual narrative to showcase these works, each representing the wildly diverse music of our time with their own unique aural landscape. The four vignettes will explore the ineffable American spirit, unbound by tradition, and what it means to be American.
Fifth House’s visit will also include a brief residency with masterclasses and workshops for Southeast students.
“We are so excited to have a dynamic group like Fifth House coming to share their amazing program ‘Americana’ with the Cape Girardeau community and to work with Southeast students,” said Dr. Gabrielle Baffoni, associate professor of single reeds at Southeast and director of the Sundays at Three series. “It will be an exciting finish to a great season of chamber music.”
