CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
April 4, 2006 – Recreational Sports at Southeast Missouri State University will host the Fifth Annual Fit for Life 5K and Alpha Delta Pi sorority will host the Running with Ronald Mile April 22 on the Southeast campus.
The new 5k (3.1 mile) course will feature a tour of the Southeast Missouri State University campus. This year, the event will use the Student Recreation Center South Campus as the race headquarters, where both the 5k and miles races will start and finish. The mile race will be an out-and-back course with volunteer attendants at each corner and the turn-around, so children are especially encouraged to participate.
The events are open to Southeast students, faculty, staff, their friends and family members, as well as all age visitors from the Cape Girardeau community and region.
Registration for the 5k is $10 if received by April 21 or $12 thereafter. Event day registration will begin at 7:15 a.m., and the 5k will start at 8 a.m. Medals will be given to the overall male and female 5k runners and the first-place 5k finishers in each age-group category. Participants also will be treated to a hospitality area, and door prizes will be given away during the award ceremony. There will be a separate registration table for mile runners and walkers on the day of the event. The mile will begin after completion of the 5k, so participants may complete both events or run in one and cheer during the other. Proceeds of the mile race will support Ronald McDonald House.
Participants are encouraged to celebrate lifelong fitness and continue a healthy lifestyle while helping to support the Ronald McDonald House.
