Property to Be Used for Additional Campus Housing
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Dec. 14, 2007 – The Southeast Missouri University Foundation has purchased the Henderson House property at 373 N. Henderson for additional on-campus student housing, according to Dr. Dennis Holt, vice president for administration and enrollment management.
Holt reported on the purchase at a meeting today of the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents.
The Foundation completed the purchase of the property in early November, Holt said.
He said the Foundation will own and operate the building, while its realtor, Exit Reality – Thomas Meyer Associates, will manage the property during the spring semester.
After the spring semester, renovation work will begin to remove kitchens in the building and convert the apartments into double occupancy residence hall rooms, according to Holt. The Foundation’s Apartment Management will be sending information shortly to the current residents of Henderson House about the future of the building.
Holt said plans call for the Foundation to lease the property to the University for use as a residence hall when the fall 2008 semester begins. The renovated building is expected to provide 80 residence hall beds and will assist Southeast in meeting its need for additional on-campus student housing as a result of the University’s continued enrollment growth, he said.
