#GivingTuesday, Nov. 29: One Day. One Gift. One Scholarship

giving-tuesday-2In the spirit of giving and on the doorstep of the holiday season, Southeast Missouri State University invites its students, alumni, faculty and staff to join in Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, in an all-in, one-day “We Are One” effort to raise $5,000 to create a need-based scholarship to benefit a Southeast student.

Giving Tuesday will come on the heels of the Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and kicks off the season of charity. On Nov, 29, Southeast will launch a one-day campaign via social media (#SEMOGivesBack), email, phone and campus events inviting every participant to simply give $10 to establish the “We are One” Scholarship.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Last year, 700,000 people raised $116 million in more than 70 countries. Southeast is joining in the spirit of Giving Tuesday this year to unite the University community in one cause – the creation of a scholarship to benefit a student with financial need.

“We at Southeast are blessed with so much to be grateful for, and our students are at the top of that list. Not only during this season of giving, but throughout the year, our students enrich this campus in ways too numerous to count,” said Bill Holland, vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. “That’s why Southeast is passionate about providing access to a quality higher education. Endowed scholarships are crucial in providing financial assistance for students who need it most in pursuing their goal of a college degree. On Giving  Tuesday, let’s celebrate ‘We Are One’ and join in this one-day effort to create a scholarship so one more student can achieve their educational dream at Southeast.”

If Southeast reaches its goal of $5,000, a generous donor will match that to endow a need-based scholarship, Holland added.
