CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
July 16, 2008 – The Golden Eagles Marching Band and the Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, on Academic Terraces on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
The concert will serve as a warm-up for the musicians, who will travel to Europe later this month.
The Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform the program they have prepared for the opening concert of the Edinburgh (Scotland) International Jazz and Blues Festival on Sunday, July 27, at Ross Theatre in Princess Street Gardens. The Golden Eagles will perform the show they have prepared for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Both concerts in Edinburgh will be performed to an estimated audience of nearly 12,000 people.
The Golden Eagles will travel to London, England, on July 21, and then to York, England, on July 24, with a special performance for the Lord Mayor of York on July 25. The band will then travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, on July 26 to begin a week of rehearsals with the international cast of nearly 1,000 musicians and will be involved in 26 performances at the historic Edinburgh Castle during the entire month of August.
According to Barry Bernhardt, director of bands at Southeast, The Golden Eagles previously performed at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 1999. They will be seen by an international audience of more than 260,000 spectators and worldwide via the BBC by more than 100 million viewers.
Members of The Golden Eagles Marching Band will return to the Southeast campus on Monday, Aug. 25, just in time for the first Southeast Redhawks football game on Thursday, Aug. 28, versus Southwest Baptist University, Bernhardt said.
