Graduating BFA Students’ Artwork Presented in Four Exhibitions

Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus Art Gallery is displaying work from students in the Department of Art in the 2017 Graduating Seniors Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Exhibitions through Dec. 15.

The current exhibition, one of four this fall, will be on display through Dec. 1 with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 1. Additional exhibitions will be on display Dec. 4-8 with a closing reception from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 8 and a final exhibition Dec. 11-15 with the closing reception from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 15. The first exhibition ended Nov. 17.

“The BFA shows are always an exciting time because it marks the culmination of the students’ time invested and skills learned while studying the Department of Art,” said Justin Miller, associate professor and exhibitions coordinator. “Each student proposes their own project to exhibit, so the variety of artwork displayed is always fun to see.”

Works presented are in ceramics, digital art, graphic design, illustration, painting, printmaking and sculpture, representing the broad expanse of Southeast’s art programs and the creativity of its students. Typically, about three students’ artwork are shown each week.

“In addition to creating their artwork, these students have also learned the skills needed to put on a show, including installation practices, advertising and reception responsibilities,” Miller said.

All exhibitions and receptions will be in the River Campus Art Gallery, which is located on the first floor of the historic Seminary Building in Room 106.

River Campus Art Gallery hours are 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-7 p.m. on First Fridays. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Justin Miller at or (573) 651-2865.
