CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Dec. 21, 2007 – The Department of Theatre and Dance at Southeast at Southeast Missouri State University has been awarded a Missouri Arts Council grant to bring in two guest artists who will be in residency teaching dance classes in January and choreography for the Dance-Apalooza 2008 faculty and guest artist dance concert Feb. 28–March 2.
The two artists are the Jump Rhythm Jazz Project from Chicago and Sean Curran Dancers from New York City.
The Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, whose artistic director is Billy Siegenfeld, will be in residency Jan. 6-12, teaching technique classes to the Southeast Dance Ensemble and constructing tap choreography titled “Play Dirty.” Associate Artistic Director Jeannie Hill and Rehearsal Director Brandi Coleman will conduct a master class in the Jump Rhythm Jazz technique. The master class, which will be free and open to the community, is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 9 at Dance Extensions, 1820 Old Toll Road in Jackson, Mo. Sean Curran, artistic director of Sean Curran Dancers, will be in residency Jan. 14-19, teaching modern dance technique classes to the Southeast Dance Ensemble and constructing a new modern dance. He will have open rehearsals available for public viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, Jan. 16 and 18, in the Dance Studio in the Cultural Arts Center at River Campus.
