CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
April 25, 2008 – The Southeast Missouri State University Guitar Ensemble will perform its final concert of the year at 7:30 p.m. May 1 in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall in the Seminary Building on Southeast’s River Campus. Admission is free. The Guitar Ensemble will feature large ensemble works, duets and solos for classical guitar. The works on the program include duets from the Renaissance, solos from Baroque era by J.S. Bach, Gaspar Sanz, and S.L. Weiss, as well as modern and Spanish solos by Leo Brouwer, Heitor Villa Lobos and Francisco Tarrega. The large ensemble works include not only a “Fugue” by Diabelli and Leo Brouwer’s famous “Cuban Landscape with Rain” but two newly composed pieces for guitar ensemble. One of these new pieces was written specifically for the Southeast Guitar Ensemble by the Department of Music’s composition professor Robert Fruehwald. His performance titled “Leaptime” is a Cape Girardeau premiere.
