High School Dance Students Invited to Attend Dance Day

2013_VP_DanceCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 7, 2013 – Prospective Southeast Missouri State University students interested in majoring in dance are invited to attend Dance Day 2013 on Saturday, Nov. 23 in the Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts at Southeast’s River Campus. The Department of Theatre and Dance will host the event.

The dance event allows high school students to explore dance in a college environment. They will experience a day devoted entirely to dance during which they will learn new movement and ideas, meet new people, witness creativity and learn why dance is a vital part of any education.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the River Campus and students will have the opportunity to participate in four free master dance classes, tour the River Campus facility and speak with faculty and current students. Participants also will receive free tickets to the evening performance of Fall for Dance 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to any students in grades 9-12.

The River Campus is a state-of-the-art facility and the only one of its kind dedicated solely to the visual and performing arts in Missouri. The Department of Theatre and Dance boasts one of the most progressive professional training programs in the Midwest and offers both a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. Both degrees give students a comprehensive dance education that combines solid and vigorous studio techniques, challenging and vital classroom experiences, and numerous performance opportunities. It also offers a minor in dance.
