High School Seniors, Families to Get Help With FAFSA Feb. 13

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 11, 2011– Southeast Missouri State University will host FAFSA Frenzy for high school seniors and their families from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 13 in Dempster Hall at the corner of Henderson and New Madrid streets.

FAFSA Frenzy is a free state-wide event in which financial aid experts assist high school students and their parents in completing the 2011-2012 Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students use this application to apply for federal student grants, work-study money and loans to assist them in funding their college education. They also may use this application to apply for most state and some private financial aid.

Additional FAFSA Frenzy events are being conducted across the state. Four $1,000 scholarships will be given to students attending these events statewide. Winners will receive their scholarships upon receipt of enrollment verification for the fall 2011 semester at a Missouri postsecondary institution.

Families that bring their completed 2010 income tax returns to the FAFSA Frenzy will be able to complete the 2011-2012 FAFSA on site. Families that have not completed their tax returns will still learn valuable information to help them finish the FAFSA at home.

FAFSA Frenzy, a program of College Goal Sunday, is offered in Missouri through partnerships between the Missouri Department of Higher Education with the Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid Personnel, the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, the Lumina Foundation for Education, and the YMCA.
