CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Oct. 22, 2004 – Southeast Missouri State University’s area higher education centers will be open on half days on Fridays beginning in fall 2005.University officials announced that its centers in Kennett, Malden and Sikeston, Mo., will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays starting next fall. The centers are presently closed all day Fridays.
“This will allow us greater flexibility in scheduling classes from campus, especially ITV classes,” said Dr. Randy Shaw, assistant provost for Extended Learning dean of the School of Polytechnic Studies.
Shaw said the new schedule will allow technicians to continue to conduct work on Friday afternoons at the area centers, when the buildings are closed. The centers also will continue to experience some energy savings by being closed on Friday afternoons, he said, and staffing saved during that time will be used to cover evening staffing early in the week when more classes are conducted at night, he said.
The University’s higher education centers in Kennett, Malden and Sikeston were placed on a four-day work week in August 2002 in response to state budget cuts.
