CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Sept. 8, 2008 – Students planning to graduate from Southeast Missouri State University within the next year are encouraged to attend a “Countdown to Commencement” session planned on campus during September.
The series of sessions, sponsored by the Office of the Registrar, Alumni Services and the Office of Student Transitions, will provide seniors with the information they need as they transition to the workforce, graduate school or other opportunities.
The sessions will guide students through their last semester of college. Students will receive advice on applying for graduation in a timely manner from Julie Grueneberg, assistant registrar/graduation; and strategies and techniques for job searching from Nolan Brunnworth, St. Louis career specialist, and Warren Skinner, assistant director for Career Linkages.
The orientation sessions are designed to accomplish three main objectives: Ensure that students understand the procedures required for graduation; inform (or remind) them of the services and resources available; and help students connect with key personnel involved in their preparation for graduation.
The sessions are planned at different times in order to accommodate as many students as possible.
“We’ve planned six sessions, beginning in mid-September,” said Sandy Hinkle, Southeast registrar. “We want to give students as much information as we can to help them through the graduation process and beyond.”
Hinkle said that, among other topics, the orientation will feature advice from Career Linkages about the job search, including cover letter and resume writing, and Shad Burner, director of Alumni Services, will discuss staying connected after graduation.
