CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 8, 2014 – New and returning education majors at Southeast Missouri State University this fall will begin picking up their iPad Airs Aug. 22 as the College of Education begins rolling out its EDvolution initiative.
The EDvolution is a program that incorporates technology into the curriculum for education majors.
“Today’s teachers must be independent and effective users of educational technology,” said Dr. Diana Rogers-Adkinson, dean of the College of Education. “We are excited that our students will be leaders in technology as a tool for supporting all learners.”
Education majors will be required to rent or own an iPad device for use in their education courses from their freshmen year through graduation.
The rental fee for an iPad Air is $200 per semester. The cost is applied to students’ Southeast accounts, and covers summers as well. Students who chose to opt out must either own an iPad Air or purchase one. Students who are purchasing or supplying their own must meet three requirements: it must be an iPad Air, be 32GB and have Wi-Fi capabilities. Students are responsible for purchasing all required apps on their personal iPads. Students who rent their iPad Airs will have access to the apps through the University.
Students must go online to sign a rental agreement or a confirmation to opt out before they arrive on campus to pick up their iPads. All iPad Airs should be picked up at the Help Desk in Memorial Hall Room 107 with the exception of students who attend regional campuses. Students need to show their Southeast ID to collect their iPad Airs.
Freshman pickup will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. Seniors can get their iPad Airs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26 and Wednesday, Aug. 27. All remaining College of Education majors, regardless of grade level, make pick up their iPads 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sept. 2-4 in Memorial Hall, Room 107.
Juniors can obtain their iPad Airs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28. Sophomores can receive theirs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.
Students who attend one of Southeast’s regional campuses should email email@example.com to confirm they will pick up an iPad Air at their regional campus. Students need to indicate their name, Southeast ID and campus pickup location in the email.
