IT Updating Windows 10 on University Computers July 30

Information Technology (IT) will be pushing out the Windows 10 May 2020 update starting Thursday, July 30. This update contains new features and enhancements to improve performance, security, and productivity. This is a large update and could take up to 45 minutes and multiple restarts on older computers.

The update will download and install automatically, in the background while you are working, but requires you to restart your computer to complete the upgrade. It is this last step that can take some time and where you will not be able to use your computer. You might choose to restart your computer to complete the upgrade at the end of the work day.

Microsoft provides critical security updates as needed, but only provides major updates twice a year. It is important that the University keeps desktop and laptop computers up-to-date.
