Jan. 14, 2010 – The Jacob S. Schneider Memorial Scholarship has been endowed through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.
Jacob’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Schneider of Jackson, Mo., his grandmother, Arlene Wollenweber of Carlyle, Ill., family and friends made a $10,000 gift to the Southeast Missouri University Foundation to make the scholarship possible.
First preference for the scholarship will be given to a student who graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson, Mo., and attended the school for a minimum of four years or for a student who attended St. Paul Lutheran for at least six years (who did not graduate). Applicants should be members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Second preference will be given to a graduate of Jackson R-2 School with an interest in a degree in the School of Polytechnic Studies or pre-engineering at Southeast.Recipients of the scholarship must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average and financial need. The University Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.
Jacob S. Schneider, 20, of Jackson, Mo., was a junior at Southeast Missouri State University, majoring in mechanical and manufacturing systems at the time of his death in August 2009. He graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School in May 2003 and from Jackson High School on May 17, 2007. While in high school, he played trumpet in the high school band. He also worked part time at Woodard’s and Jackson Save-A-Lot. During the summer of 2009, Schneider was employed by Southeast Missouri State University on a residence hall painting crew.
Steve Schneider is a 1978 graduate of Southeast and serves on the Southeast Missouri University Foundation Board of Directors.
