Jumpstart the Holiday Season with ‘Christmas Jukebox’ at Southeast’s River Campus

Celebrate the season of merry-making with the “Big Band Christmas Jukebox,” presented by the Department of Music and The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance, Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Donald. C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

The “Christmas Jukebox” is a great opportunity for families and friends to get into the swing of the holiday season with jazz musicians and vocalists performing favorite Christmas songs, as well as numbers that touch on Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and New Year’s Eve.

This year’s concert will feature a variety of musical styles, including the Andrews Sisters, a close harmony singing group of the swing and boogie-woogie era. The evening will also feature Southeast’s Studio Jazz Ensemble.

The spirited entertainment will provide an evening full of holiday cheer that will delight audiences of all ages, said Kitt Lavoie, assistant professor of theatre, acting and directing.

“The evening will be hosted by a trio of Andrews Sisters-style singers, who will both sing numbers of their own and guide us through the evening,” Lavoie said. “The program will be a great kick-off to the holiday season — truly something for everyone — from ‘O Holy Night’ to a doo-wap version of ‘Here Comes Santa Claus,’ and two great classics by the Andrews Sisters and even the more modern ‘All I Want for Christmas is You.’”

The “Big Band Christmas Jukebox” will follow The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance’s Extravaganza, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 23 in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center at Southeast’s River Campus. The Extravaganza features entertainment by Bachelor of Fine Arts majors, and proceeds support career development opportunities for students.
