CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 29, 2005 ᾰ Southeast Missouri State University’s Alpha Eta chapter of Kappa Delta Pi recently donated 180 children’s books to the Community Back to School Fair being planned for July.
The fair is being organized by several community agencies, including the Missouri State Probation and Parole Office, the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department, the Cape Girardeau County Health Department, East Missouri Action Agency and the Salvation Army. The books will be given to children, along with backpacks and school supplies.
The donation is part of Kappa Delta Pi’s Reading is Fun project. This year, the chapter has donated 534 books to the community through several service projects, including 283 dictionaries to Cape Girardeau third-graders, 15 dictionaries to third-grade teachers, 56 children’s books to children attending the Tiger Initiative after-school program at Franklin Elementary School and 180 books to the Community Back to School Fair.
Kappa Delta Pi is an honor society dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education.
