CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 7, 2012 — The Ken Ludwig comedy “Lend Me a Tenor” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 22-24 and March 29-31 and at 2 p.m. April 1 in the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
“Winner of the 2010 Tony Award, this hysterically funny farce is guaranteed to leave you teary eyed with laughter,” said Amy Fritsche, assistant professor of theatre and dance at Southeast Missouri State University who is directing the show. “It’s kind of like a quick change farce comedy. It’s very, very funny.”
Tito Merelli, a hot-headed Italian superstar, disappears soon after he arrives in Cleveland, Ohio, to make his debut with a local opera. The show’s presenter, left in a predicament with eager fans awaiting Tito’s performance, conspires to cover for Tito’s absence, placate Tito’s hot-blooded wife and distract the superstar’s passionate fans. The situation goes from bad to worse as chaos on a truly operatic level ensues.
“Lend Me a Tenor” is a madcap screwball comedy by Ken Ludwig.
“This is a very funny show,” said Rhonda Weller-Stilson, interim chair of the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts. “It is truly one of the funniest shows I’ve seen.”
