The award will be given to a student in the College of Science and Mathematics who is studying to obtain a bachelor of science degree in education. The College of Science and Mathematics Scholarship Committee will select the recipient. The scholarship is renewable, but the recipient must reapply each year.
Lester L. Leaton attended Central Missouri State University and received master’s degrees in education and nuclear chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis. He taught high school at New Haven, DeSoto and Rolla, Mo., and was a professor of chemistry at Southeast from 1964 until his retirement in 1990. Leaton was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, the American Chemical Society, the Hopeful Investment Club and the Optimists.
