Kathy Mangels, vice president for finance and administration, delivered a report on contracts and Facilities Management projects to the Regents Feb. 21. She said replacement of scoreboards at Houck Stadium and the Southeast Softball Complex with new digital video boards will enhance the fan experience. The softball scoreboard has been completed, and the Houck scoreboard is expected to be completed this summer.
Construction began over the holiday break on renovation to utility tunnels 51-55 between the Otto and Della Seabaugh Polytechnic Building and Group Housing, Mangels said. Work on the Experiential Lab on the first floor of Dempster Hall is complete. This space will provide comprehensive space and technology for real-world student experiences as they cultivate their skills in finance, sales and hospitality management. The facility is expected to open later this semester.
Mangels also noted that the replacement of a 5KVA feeder line is expected to be completed in April, and the razing of the International House was completed in January on College Hill. Work will also begin in March to upgrade elevators in Towers West and North, and contracts also have been issued for general construction, general electrical and general plumbing projects with completion dates projected for February 2021, she said.
Work on a new veterans plaza recognizing the military service of veterans and their families will begin in March, with an opening ceremony planned for May 1.
