CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 24, 2013 – Mr. Jack Daniels’ Original Silver Cornet Band will perform Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
The magic begins from the moment the spidery white gazebo and the homey Tennessee front porch rocking chair appear on stage. The band is an affectionate recreation of a small town band that existed in Lynchburg, Tenn., when life moved at a less hurried pace.
The modern version of this band was the creation of David Fulmer, who wrote the show and performed as the “Perfesser” for many years. Since 1978, the band has performed in concert halls throughout the United States and Canada.
More than just a band concert, a performance by the Silver Cornet Band is a time traveling excursion to the early 1900s, when a warm summer evening was spent with a picnic supper in the park, the fellowship of friends and neighbors and the sound of band music in the air.
Bob Cerchio, assistant director at the River Campus, who has booked this group several times in the past, said, “I absolutely guarantee this wonderful group will put a smile on your face. It’s like a trip back in time to a wonderful, turn-of-the-century place.”
Tickets may be purchased by contacting the River Campus Box Office, located in the Cultural Arts Center, 518 S. Fountain St., weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., by calling (573) 651-2265, or by visiting www.RiverCampusEvents.com.
