CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 15, 2008 — The Southeast Missouri Music Academy has announced the winners of its annual Composition Contest.
In the spring, students in the Academy’s Musicianship Classes compose their own original music.
“The Composition Project allows students to experience the ultimate in music creation, combining theory and aural skills, as well as individual study on their own instrument or voice,” said Rebecca Fulgham, Academy director.
The compositions can be for any medium. This year some of the winning music was written for violin, piano, clarinet duet, and violin duet. Sherrie Troxel of Jackson, Mo., is the musicianship class instructor.
Winners in the High School Division are: first place: Keith LeGrand, Kelso, Mo.; second place: Ryan Welker, Jackson, Mo.; third place: Camden Criddle – Cape Girardeau. Junior High Division winners are: first place: Gabriel Lockhart, Perryville, Mo.; second place: Hannah Harmon, Perryville, Mo. Elementary Division winners are: first place: Graeme Davis, Cape Giraradeau; second place: Jennifer Beal, Advance, Mo.; third place: Vikas Rudrappa, Cape Girardeau. Primary Division winners are: first place: Colton Jones, Kelso, Mo.; second place: Savanna Bellew, Cape Girardeau; third place: Lydia Riehn, Jackson, Mo.
