Musical Comedy ‘Bullets over Broadway’ Hits Bedell Stage May 4

20036-2CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 18, 2016 –The Southeast Missouri State University River Campus 2015-2016 touring series will come to a close with the musical comedy “Bullets over Broadway” at 7:30 p.m. May 4 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.

A hilarious musical comedy about the making of a Broadway show, “Bullets over Broadway,” is the story of a young playwright who, in desperate need of financial backing for his next show, accepts an offer he can’t refuse from a mobster looking to please his showgirl girlfriend.

When asked about the show, Bob Cerchio, of the River Campus, said, “I saw this story in the original, full-length movie, and was blown away (no pun intended) by the hilarious plot.  They’ve really managed to maintain the strong story line of the movie in this Broadway musical version.  Of course, working in the Theatre, I am really entranced by the back-stage insights.  We often say that you’re only seeing ten percent of a show on the stage, and this musical certainly helps fill-in the other ninety percent.  It reminds me a bit of ‘Noises Off,’ a 1982 ‘backstage’ play which was followed by a 1992 film version.  Like ‘Noises Off,’ ‘Bullets over Broadway’ proves that you can have two extremely strong versions of the same, hilarious story.”

In addition to the show, attendees can enjoy a fine dining experience in the Kenneth and Jeanine Dobbins River Campus Center. Art Cuisine will be available prior to the performance. For $21 per person, which includes the meal, tax and gratuity along with preferred parking, patrons will receive a choice of three entrées, including a vegetarian selection. Each meal will also include a gourmet salad, dessert, tea and coffee. Beer and wine will be available for purchase at an additional charge. The dinner will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. The Kenneth and Jeanine Dobbins River Campus Center is a two-minute walk from the Bedell Performance Hall.
