newEar Contemporary Chamber Performing March 31 at Southeast

The Chateau Girardeau “Sundays at Three” series will host a performance by the newEar Contemporary Chamber Ensemble March 31 at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall.

In this concert, entitled “Spiritual Perspectives,” newEar will present music by composers Asha Srinivasan, Marcos Balter and Mohammed Fairouz.

“This season, newEar is on a quest to explore the human experience. In this concert, utilizing string quartet and clarinet, we will delve into the many spiritual traditions from diverse composers and regions around the world in an attempt to answer or further the question of why we are here,” said Dr. Sharra Wagner, artistic director of newEar.

Kansas City’s acclaimed professional chamber music ensemble for more than 25 years, newEar features the music of living composers in eclectic and engaging programs. newEar’s performances often blend the sounds of classical art music, rock, jazz, world music and the avant-garde. The ensemble presents a wide range of composers, instrumentations and styles – from a traditional piano trio or string quartet to works for solo instrument and electronics, guzheng and woodwinds, or electric guitar and percussion.
